Welcome to Eighth Street Elementary School!
Welcome to Eighth Street Elementary—where history meets heart, and every child matters.
For over a century, our school has stood proudly in the heart of downtown Ocala, serving generations of learners and families. As a school rooted in tradition and committed to excellence, we believe in nurturing not only academic success but also the character, creativity, and confidence of every student who walks through our doors.
At Eighth Street Elementary, we view our families as essential partners in the learning journey. Together, we create a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment where children are encouraged to explore, grow, and become their best selves. Whether you're new to our school or a long-time member of our community, we are grateful to have you as part of the Eighth Street family.
Thank you for trusting us with your child’s education. We are honored to share in their story—and yours.
With warmest regards,
The Eighth Street Elementary Team
8th Street History
Our three-story brick school, located at the corner of 8th Street and Tuscawilla Avenue in downtown Ocala, was built in 1914 and is proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places. When it first opened its doors in October 1914, it served as Ocala High School, widely recognized as the “premier high school” of its time. In 1932, the building was renamed Ocala Primary School, marking the beginning of its long-standing role as an elementary school. It became Central Elementary in 1949, and in 1965, adopted the name it still carries with pride today: Eighth Street Elementary.
